January 23, 2006Fiducial’s branch managers meet with seasonal tax professionals each November to make sure they have the necessary experts in place before the tax return filing crunch gets into full swing.
Orientation was recently held for nearly 70 part-time tax pros that will staff 10 Fiducial tax offices in Oregon this tax season. The company may also recruit a few seasonal employees for some of its field offices, according to Meredith Lindenmann, Fiducial’s human resources manager.
Fiducial begins actively looking for seasonal tax pros when they start advertising positions in September, Lindenmann says, “because you’re fighting for the same talent as your competitors.
“If you start recruiting in January you’re missing the ball,” she said. “Your pickings are going to be slim.”
A wealth of talent, experience
Most of the returning seasonal employees have been with Fiducial for about 10 to 15 years. These are more experienced workers who bring a wealth of talent and experience to bear in handling the many tax clients that come their way between now and April 15.
In Oregon all tax preparers have to be licensed. Each Fiducial office there either has a tax consultant or a tax advisor that oversees the office. They, in turn, are supported by tax preparers, checkers and receptionists who anticipate another busy tax season this year.
These hard-working returnees also have to keep their licenses up to date and add to their extensive industry knowledge by earning Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits.
“It takes a certain type of individual to put in the long hours it takes during tax season,” Lindenmann said. “They get a lot of reward from the job on their clients’ faces when they get their tax return checks.”
